At GWSA we welcome all ages and skill-levels. From those that need to learn the skills necessary to be safe and enjoy their experience in the water to the most dedicated and goal-oriented swimmers and triathletes, we have a home for you...
Along with the daily pool time, our strength training program is designed to build the athletes from the inside-out. While we place a heavy focus on total body integrated strength, range of motion, and flexibility; we incorporate hand-balancing, tumbling, gymnastics, Olympic rings, stretch cords, and martial arts into the program design for all age groups. As our athletes progress, our older swimmers will learn how to properly handle medicine balls, kettle bells, and battle ropes.
Every participant should graduate our program knowing how to comfortably hold a free-standing hand stand in perfect line. Achieving a streamline position while balancing in space will make it very easy to intuitively achieve that position in the water.
In order to achieve our vision of helping families to develop individuals that have minds of independence, hearts of service, and souls of integrity, we emphasize character development as a constant practice in our daily lives. On a monthly basis, at practice, we celebrate the consistent execution of positive character qualities that have been identified to improve our lives in and out of the pool.
By integrating all of these components, GWSA's aim is to holistically develop our athletes in to true Champions.
Below you will find a list of our training groups and what you and/or your swimmer can expect to gain from each. When the swimmer is ready, and the necessary skills have been adopted, they will graduate to the next training group and begin to build on what they've already learned.
There is NO SKILL REQUIREMENT for this group. The curriculum for our Manta Rays group is designed to gently introduce the swimmer in to the world of competitive swimming. The main emphasis in the MR group is to have FUN while learning the skills necessary to be safe, relax, and move efficiently in the water. We have at least one coach in the water with this group to provide any assistance needed.
> Proper perception and understanding of efficient movement through the use of gravity and other gratuitous forces.
> Comfort in the water
> Maintenance of efficient body position and streamline position
> Proper set-up on wall and lane organization
> Introduction to all 4 competitive strokes, starts, and turns
Before graduating from MR, the swimmer must be able to perform a USA-S legal freestyle and backstroke for at least 50 yds
The GWSA Master's team - The Megalodons, is the newest addition to our program. The only requirement is that you can swim 50 meters without touching the side or bottom of the pool. We coach all skill-levels and welcome everyone from recreational swimmers who need some stroke instruction and a solid, consistent programming structure, to the most dedicated Iron Man triathletes and Master's Swimming competitors. We plan to begin our competition schedule in the early part of 2018.
Equipment For All Groups:
There are several items that all swimmers need in their gear bag to enhance their training. While it is not required, it highly suggested. As we progress, we will be incorporating all of the following equipment in to our regular training schedule.
All items can be found at Swim and Tri by clicking on the "Team Store" link
